New York Minute

Updated: Oct 11, 2023

Maximizing every single minute in a trip to the big apple!

Each year, my family and I take my nephew on a birthday trip. He is big into history, so naturally it all started in Washington D.C. Each year we have gone somewhere different, typically finding historical places along the way. After D.C., NYC was up next. So much history to see in such a short time! I knew I had to get to work.

Minute by Minute

It was time for this small town girl to learn how to navigate the subway! Not only that, I had no idea how long it took to get from place to place on a subway. In my area, 15 minutes and 15 miles is the same thing. I quickly learned that on the subway, 15 minutes could only be a few city blocks. Timing was everything because we had a jam packed schedule to hit in all 3 days we were adventuring!

I got to work, downloading all the apps I could find and using Google Maps to help me plan the best routes. When all was said and done, after hours of effort, I had it timed out to hop on the subway, get off at each stop, walk between events, get back on the subway, make it to food reservations and make it back to where we were staying. It was a LOT of walking for short little legs, but my nephew was a trooper and we made it everywhere he wanted to go and we stayed on track and on time! Bizarre is an understatement. This kid has so much energy and when we got back to our room, we all sat down for a movie night and he decided to hang out in bed. I've never seen that before LOL.

You can travel to relax or you can travel to travel. We tend to travel to travel and never underestimate the power of a thought out plan!
